Another successful fundraiser last night with the KL gentlemen once again meeting for a night of booze, sledging and Texas hold 'em......in that order of course!
To put ZMK1,500,000 in real terms, we raised 3 months salary for a teacher in Livingston, or enough to buy millie meal, kapenta and vegetables to feed the orphans for months and months. RM650......... who would have thought?
The great night got off to a blistering start with an unexpected and anonymous donation to the orphans.......Well, it wasn't strictly speaking anonymous - Marvellous did tell me the good samaritans name but even with alcoholic enhancement I am unable to remember. Never fear, this supporter of the weak and champion of the poor will be honoured in a blog to come.
Wilko was the big early winner in our last meeting but this time he only missed a late peanlty by seconds and rattled, took a long time to start to take the game by the throat - he did have his moments however......
Wilko's fortunes fluctuated, but he did not need to buy back in and finished with a respectable $6000 in the bank....
What an outstanding performance from
Marvellous Ben Mather this time around...... Bloggers will recall that at our last meet Marvellous sacrificed all and had to buy back in twice. This time around however, he managed to keep his head and finish the game on his original punt and $4125 in the bank......nice one Marvellous.
New comer,
Andrew The Aggressor Leahy put in a solid first round appearance..... His cards might have been shitty all night but his selection of international beers was breath-taking. Never really taking any large hits but also slow to accumulate, The Aggressor was forced to buy back in late in the game so he could finish off those international beers...... His bank account at the end of the night was a healthy $8,500.
Our big winnner from our first Gentlemen's Evening was
Bartman Bartley. He started hard on the Coronas early this time around, had a lovely three of a kind smashed by a full house and really never got back into the game. Even with a buy in, Bartman was unable to find his rhythm and went out late in the night.....we all know however that Bartman will be back!
Filthy Firthy was without doubt, the burglar of the night and consequently refused to show his face to the media. On the verge of an early demise, Filthy went all in and sat back and watched as the game unfolded. Furious betting saw the piles of chips grow alarmingly in the middle of the table......In the end, three of a kind was beaten by an ace high full house which was burgled by Filthy with four sixes!
With underhanded tactics, and last minute repreives, Filthy managed to stay alive right to the end....always keeping that spare RM50 at hand just in case.......He finished the night with that reserve RM50 but absolutely nothing else.
Dave The Boss Kilpatrick managed to keep himself in the game most of the night despite, or maybe because of, his confusion with blue, black and purple chips....... minor variations in value from $50 to $500!
The Boss quietly went about the business of losing and entertaining us with karaoke and blank looks most of the night..... "What, that's black isn't it?"
Nothing in the bank at the end but still had a belly full of Tiger.... top job Boss.
And the big winner was
Monty Martineau, bulging the bank with $26,000 at the end of the night. Monty, in his first appearance, played with great patience and sublime composure under heavy pressure from the peanut gallery. Admitedly Monty went out in the early rounds and had to buy back in but that second RM50 took him all the way to the top. Onya Monty........
From the aids orphans of the Linda Community, Livingston, Zambia a massive thank you once again blokes......we had a blast and at the same time did some social good....frightening really.
